The weekend is finally here! Now it’s time to sit back and relax (unless you work on the weekends, and if that’s the case then I don’t know what to tell you because I don’t have a job).
Life can get pretty hectic, and we often forget to take care of ourselves. Whether it’s been a long week at work or in my case dealing with personal problems, it is important to prioritize taking care of yourself.
The weekend is the perfect time to unwind and take care of your physical, emotional, and mental health.
Here are 10 self-care ideas for the weekend:
1. Write down 3 things you love about yourself
When was the last time you complimented yourself?
I remember when I was first asked this question; my mind went blank. I honestly could not think of a time I ever complimented myself, and that’s crazy because I’m always giving out compliments to other people. Why couldn’t I do the same for myself?
Complimenting yourself is a great way to boost your confidence and self-esteem. Positive self-talk makes you feel good and improves your attitude towards yourself.
Everyone deserves compliments, and there is nothing wrong with complimenting yourself.
Self-love is the best love!
2. Have a DIY spa day at home
If you can afford to go to the spa on a regular basis then good for you, but we broke over here so we gotta improvise.
There are so many spa activities you can do yourself in the comfort of your own home. Create your at-home spa day by lighting candles, playing music, taking a bubble bath, exfoliating your skin, putting on a nice face mask, doing your nails, etc.
Pampering yourself at home relaxes you and saves you money, so it’s a win-win.
3. Go for a walk outside
“Exercise gives you endorphins… endorphins make you happy.”
Elle Woods
We stan a smart queen!
It’s actually true though, science proves that exercise does indeed make you happy.
Going for a walk is good for your mind and body. You get to clear your mind and exercise at the same time which is good for your overall health.
I don’t even like doing any type of exercise, but I do it anyway because it relaxes me and makes me feel good about myself.
4. Journaling
Journaling is a great way to express yourself and take control of your emotions and thoughts.
It helps you release your stress, organize your thoughts, ease your anxiety, and release any pent-up anger.
Getting lost in your words takes your mind away from everything.
Sometimes I have trouble expressing myself through words when there’s a lot going on in my head and journaling helps with that.
5. Read a book
Not only is it a stress reliever, but it’s also a way to escape your reality for a little while.
Reading can take you to another world. You get lost in the words, connect with the characters, and before you know it you are wrapped up in a book for hours not worrying about anything else.
For me personally, reading is the best self-care
6. Sleep
Sleep is essential for your health. You need it to function.
Many people don’t get enough sleep because they don’t have time between work and other obligations.
The weekend is the perfect opportunity to catch up on much-needed sleep. So go get some, and when you wake up you’ll be in a much better mood.
7. Buy yourself something nice
There’s a debate going on as to whether or not material things make you happy.
I can’t speak for everyone else, but shopping is a form of self-care for me
Buying new things that I like instantly puts a smile on my face and improves my mood. I can’t help it either, I’m a shopaholic (Confessions of a Shopaholic is a great movie btw).
Always treat yourself because you deserve it and life is too short.
8. Cook or eat your favorite meal
Eating your favorite food brings you comfort and makes you happy.
I don’t like to cook, but I love to eat.
To be honest, cooking low key stresses me out, but eating makes everything better so it’s worth it in the end.
Food makes me so happy. If I could marry it I would.
9. Unplug from the world
Either turn off your phone or put it on do not disturb!
There are so many benefits of unplugging from technology. Unplugging allows you to be more present in the real world and worry about yourself more.
Unplugging also reduces your stress and anxiety.
We live in a crazy world where bad things happen every day, so unplugging from technology and social media every once in a while is good for your peace of mind.
10. Do something creative
“Creativity is intelligence having fun.”
Albert Einstein
There are so many creative outlets you can do this weekend. There’s drawing, painting, writing, making vision boards, etc.
Creativity improves your mental health by reducing stress and anxiety. It’s also a fun way to express yourself.
I know everyone’s work schedule is different and that’s okay because these ideas aren’t only for the weekends. You can do them whenever you have free time or a day off, and if you’re jobless like me then you can do them everyday lol
Make the most of the weekend! Your physical and mental health is important, so please stop forgetting to take care of yourself.
